Safe Operation of Elevated Work Platforms (Aerial Lift)
Course Length - 8 Hours
Aerial lifting devices are becoming more prevalent in our workplaces. This course will provide operators with an understanding of the hazards associated with operating aerial lifting devices, the proper inspection and safe operation of the device. The course focuses on self propelled elevated work platforms and self propelled boom supported elevated work platforms. Fall Arrest use with an aerial lifting device is covered in the course.
The course is designed in accordance with CSA B354.2-01, Self-Propelled Elevating Work Platforms.
Included in this course are reviews of safe operating with Self Propelled Elevating Work Platforms (Sissor Lift) and Self Propelled Boom Supported Elevated Work Platforms (i.e Genie Boom)
In order to receive a Certificate of Competency, the participant must achieve a passing grade on the written in-class test and the practical skills evaluation. The practical skills evaluation is to be performed at the workers place of employment.
The course is broken down into the following content modules:
- Hazard Identification
- Warning Labels and Decals
- Devices and Operating Controls
- Pre-Operational Checks
- Platform Positioning
- Park Position
- Question and Answer
Upon completion of the theory portion of the program a hands on practical evaluation is required to complete certification. A $75/person charge applies for each evaluation. If additional evaluations are required for different types of lifting devices, than a charge of $25/person/lifting device will apply. Hands-on evaluations must be completed within 90 days.
