Blood Borne Pathogens

Course Length - 4 Hours

Blood Borne Pathogens are micro organisms such as viruses, or bacteria that are carried in blood and can cause disease in people. Workers in many different occupations are at risk of exposure to Blood Borne Pathogens.

Our course helps to ensure that individuals responsible for dealing with these hazards are well trained and competent. This workshop teaches participants proper ways to recognize and control Blood borne Pathogens n the workplace. This course is directed towards individuals that provide First Aid and medical treatment.

Workers can be exposed to blood through needle sticks, dressing changes, housekeeping and other sharps injuries that come into contact with mucous membranes or break the skin.

The course is broken down into the following content modules:

  • Hepatitis B and HIV
  • Modes of transmission
  • Personal Protective Equipment and other control methods
  • Decontamination and sterilization
  • Sharps and labeling
  • Emergency procedures
  • Evaluation
  • Questions and Answers
