Safe Operation of Elevated Work Platforms (Aerial Lift) Train the Trainer

Aerial lifting devices and work associated with the use of these devices is becoming more prevalent in many different working environments. Proper training and competent instruction is a key component to successfully reduce incidents associated with aerial lift use.

Our comprehensive train the trainer program will teach participants how to train their own aerial lift course. The course will provide participants with an understanding of the hazards associated with operating aerial lifting devices, the proper pre-use inspection and safe operating principles of the equipment.

The course focuses on self propelled elevated work platforms and self propelled boom supported elevated work platforms. Fall Arrest use with an aerial lifting device is covered in the course.

The course is designed in accordance with CSA B354.2-01, Self-Propelled Elevating Work Platforms.

Included in this course are reviews of safe operating with Self Propelled Elevating Work Platforms (Sissor Lift) and Self Propelled Boom Supported Elevated Work Platforms (i.e Genie Boom)

In order to receive a Certificate of Competency, the participant must achieve a passing grade on the written in-class test and the practical skills evaluation. The practical skills evaluation is to be performed at the workers place of employment.

The course is broken down into the following content modules:

  • Hazard Identification
  • Warning Labels and Decals
  • Devices and Operating Controls
  • Pre-Operational Checks
  • Platform Positioning
  • Park Position
  • Question and Answer

Course Material:

Record of attendance, wallet card and wall certificate, 1 Trainer Manual, 1 Training DVD, 1 CD-ROM containing containing read only files for the powerpoint presentation, test and answers.  Sample certificates along with a course materials order form are also included.

51.(2)A lifting device shall be operated,

(a) only by

(i) a competent person; or

(ii) a worker being instructed who is accompanied by a competent person

The fee for this Train-the-Trainer course includes one visit by OSG to a location within the (905), (519) or (416) area codes to perform the evaluation. This should not be scheduled with OSG until the participant has a minimum of 8 hours of operating experience on the relevant equipment. Please keep in mind that if more than one visit is needed to complete this or subsequent evaluations, additional fees will be charged. Evaluations must be completed within 90 days of the theory segment.
