Safe Operation of Overhead Cranes Train the Trainer

Overhead Crane operators require training from a competent individual. Proper training and competent instruction is a key component to successfully reduce incidents associated with overhead crane use.

Our comprehensive train the trainer program will teach participants how to train their own overhead crane course. The course will provide participants with an understanding of how to successfully teach their own participants on the hazards associated with operating overhead cranes, the proper pre-use inspection and safe operating principles of the equipment.

This course covers a variety of industrial type cranes including bridge, jib and gantry cranes and has been designed in accordance with B167-08 Overhead travelling cranes – Design, inspection, testing, maintenance, and safe operation.

The course is broken down into the following content modules:

  • Hazard Identification
  • Pre-Operational Checks
  • Rigging
  • Capacity and Sling Angles
  • Safe Operating Procedures
  • Question and Answer

Course Material:

Record of attendance, wallet card and wall certificate, 1 Trainer Manual, 1 Training DVD, 1 CD-ROM containing containing read only files for the powerpoint presentation, test and answers.  Sample certificates along with a course materials order form are also included.

51.(2)A lifting device shall be operated,

(a) only by
(i) a competent person; or
(ii) a worker being instructed who is accompanied by a competent person

Following the theory segment of this program a hands-on evaluation is required to complete certification. The fee for this Train-the-Trainer course includes one visit by OSG to a location within the (905), (519) or (416) area codes to perform the evaluation. This should not be scheduled with OSG until the participant has a minimum of 8 hours of operating experience on the relevant equipment.
