About The Keg Steakhouse and Bar:

The Keg Steakhouse and Bar is a high-end restaurant, with locations all over Canada and the US. The restaurant boasts a full menu with delicious steak, seafood, and chicken entrees; as well as enticing starters and desserts. They are well-known for the best steaks in town, and nothing beats their Keg special: juicy prime-rib coming off the grill at a perfect medium rare. The Corporate Training Manager, Chantel McPherson, has described her biggest health and safety challenge as keeping all 8000 staff members trained on, and safe from, slip, trip, and fall hazards. Chantel told OSG that, “Keeping prevention of slips, trips, and falls top of mind is important in every restaurant.” Through effective Joint Health and Safety Committee Part 1 & Part 2 training, which OSG customized to meet The Keg Steakhouse and Bar’s specific and unique needs, Chantel is able drive home the importance of slip, trip, and fall hazard prevention across all locations. Each location has a functioning JHSC that is supported by Chantel at the corporate office. The JHSC inspects the workplace, meets monthly to discuss potential hazards, and reviews the effectiveness of controls already in place.

The Keg Steakhouse and Bar is this month’s OSG Health and Safety Champion because they are making progressive strides to increase the safety and prevent injuries in their workplace, and they recognize the value of working together to increase safety culture. Daily shift meetings are part of the slip, trip, and fall hazard prevention program, and policies are posted in every restaurant in a highly visible location. Location management and supervisors also provide daily reminders, and it’s through their leadership that staff are inspired to work safely to prevent slips, trips, and falls. Chantel states that, “Health and safety excellence is only achieved with involvement and commitment of everyone in the organization.” Since their training, The Keg Steakhouse and Bar has made many positive changes, including implementing daily shift meetings, prevention training, and JHSC committee certification for all members.
